INT. PARLIAMENT HOUSE - DAY
Ross Lyon is standing at the podium, dressed in a suit and tie.
ROSS LYON Thank you, thank you. It's an honour to stand before you today as the newly appointed Prime Minister of Australia. I must say, I didn't see this coming. I thought I was just going to be coaching some footy...
The crowd erupts into laughter.
ROSS LYON (CONT'D) But here I am. And I promise you, I'm going to give this job the same level of commitment and passion that I give to coaching a footy team. Let's get down to business.
Ross clears his throat.
ROSS LYON (CONT'D) First of all, I want to address the elephant in the room. Yes, I'm aware that I have a bit of a reputation as a hard taskmaster. But I believe that in order for this country to succeed, we need leadership that is all about tough love. And let's be honest, sometimes Australia needs a good kicking up the backside.
The crowd laughs and cheers.
ROSS LYON (CONT'D) But all jokes aside, I want this country to be a place where everyone has an equal chance to succeed. No matter where you come from, what you look like or who you love. We need to build a fairer, more equitable society for all Australians.
Ross pauses for a moment.
ROSS LYON (CONT'D) And I know that's going to be a tough job. But if there's one thing I've learned from coaching footy, it's that you don't win games by just turning up. You win by working hard, being disciplined and being willing to make tough calls.
The crowd nods in agreement.
ROSS LYON (CONT'D) So, let's roll up our sleeves, get to work and make this country the best it can be. I'm ready to lead, and I hope you're ready to join me.
The crowd stands up and applauds as Ross steps away from the podium, a smile on his face.
ROSS LYON Now, who's up for some one-on-one meetings? Just kidding... or am I? Thanks everyone.
